Aim and Objectives:

Savannah Kids Education Project is a young project, founded with the aim to give underprivileged children in the north of Ghana the possibility to follow primary and secondary education. Unfortunately there are many families in Ghana with the lack of financial means to send their children to school. Because of that many children end up on the streets, where they work hard simply to survive. S.K.E.P. wants to see these children back at school, where they belong. By giving these children the possibility to follow education now, they will have hope for a better future.

Procedure:

S.K.E.P.  is a cooperation between  Ghana and the Netherlands. In Ghana we have our office in Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region of Ghana. There we cooperate closely with the Baga-Baga school, a public primary and secondary school. We have decided to send all the children that are being supported by S.K.E.P. to this school. Because at the moment our foundation is still small it makes it easier to coordinate everything. However, we might expand in the future and then there will be the possibility to cooperate with other schools as well.

Our co-operators in Ghana try to find children with a low possibility of going to school.  We realize that most children from poor homes or street kids are not in school during school hours, so most children are chosen by S.K.E.P. during these hours.  When a child is selected a contract is made between the guardian (this can be a parent but also a different family member) and S.K.E.P Before Signing the contract S.K.E.P. first examines the interest of the parent in their child's education. The parents have to be motivated to receive education for their child. We also support children who in one way or the other can-not continue school because of a financial issue. When teachers at the Baga-Baga school notice a child has to drop out of school, because he or she can’t afford the school fee, they notify S.K.E.P

When a child is permitted in our project S.K.E.P. will couple him or her to a supporter in the Netherlands.  The supporter will maintain the child for at least a year. Thanks to the contribution of our supporters these children can go back to school and have hope again for a better future.

All of our supporters are keeping in touch with their ‘adopted’ in Ghana. By sending letters with the children the supporters keep informed of how ‘their’ child in Ghana is doing. The children write letters, make drawings and of course like it as well to receive letters of their supporters.

Supporters and Donors:

S.K.E.P. tries to help underprivileged children in Ghana by coupling them to a Foreign sponsor, who will be adopting the child in a certain way. S.K.E.P. is looking for sponsors willing to support a child financially for the period of at least a year. For a monthly fee of £15 a child in Ghana can go to school again and his family will also receive financial support. The support the family receives saves them from the necessity of sending their children out in the streets to work.  This financial support also makes it possible for the children to live with their mothers.

S.K.E.P. is also always looking for donors, for extra and unexpected expenses. One can think of expenses like children with learning difficulties, costs of exams and participation in excursions. And also when a child needs medical support S.K.E.P. wants to make this possible.
